Anyway, those nice folk over at ADV Films US have sent us the details of the insane anime Cromartie High School, which is due out on March 15th. Do you fancy the idea of going to a high school full of delinquents? Well Kamiyama somehow has been enrolled there!

Our UK readers should be interested to know that the Platinum Edition of Neon Genesis Evangenlion is out on the 21st February. This is more of a friendly reminder really since we've already posted the press release for it. We don't normally post reminder stories however considering how popular Eva is it's bound to generate a lot of interest.
The Platinum edition has remastered video, with sharper colours that really do look more vibrant, a new 5.1 surround sound audio remix which to put it simply sounds great even when down sampled to standard stereo. ADV have also gone to town with the packaging, the DVD case comes in a shiny card sleeve cover features some nice artwork and also a 12 page booklet with sleeve notes on the series. If you haven't already got Evangelion this is the edition you should buy, if you've already got it on DVD and are a big fan you still might want to consider getting this remastered edition.

ADV Films have sent us the details for their US DVD release of A Tree of Palme, the anime answer to Pinocchio.Joe
Russian Idol Yulia Nova and Japanese photographer Satoshi Kizu have teamed up to produce some Cosplay DVDs, which are well clearly aimed at the more mature audience. The Otaku News Crew wonder who buys these things and more importantly, why they don't bother buying Schoolgirl Milky Crisis instead! ^_-Joe
Those nice folk at ADV Films have sent us the details for the US DVD version of Gantz volume 2. The violent anime series that gets you asking a lot of questions about the morals of killing, life after death and also large black spheres!Joe
More news from ADV Films, this time about the release of Gravion Zwei volume 1. With this title the keyword seems to be fanservice, lots of fanservice!Joe

The anime series Naruto has finally been licensed in North America and Latin America. Questions about the status of the series have become an almost standard joke at conventions. The series has been licensed by ShoPro, which is set to merge with Viz who currently publish the manga in the US Shonen Jump as well as graphic novels.Joe
We've just got the details in from ADV Films regarding DNAngel Volume 3, which is due out on March 1.Joe
The folks over at ADV Films US have sent us the details for their February 15 releases. They've got the closing of volumes Aura Battler Dubine (Volume 12) and the budget priced Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040: Essential Anime Collection Volume 3 along with Legend of Crystania: Chaos Ring.
The Otaku News Crew recommend Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, since it's a good show and at $20 for over 3 hours of anime you can't go wrong.
ADV Films UK have just sent us details of upcoming UK releases for Febuary. A fantastic month of anime including:
- Lady Death: The Motion Picture
- Chrono Crusade volume 1
- Gad Guard volume 2
- Get Backers volume 2
- Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi volume 3
- Rune Soldier volume 5
- Final Fantasy: Unlimited - Phase Seven
The Otaku News Crew like the look of the next installments of the hilarious Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi and Get Backers.
Rory from UK-Anime.net sent us some details about the UK release of Appleseed. Optimum Releasing have the UK rights to the new CGI Appleseed movie (Optimum have released Spirited Away and the Grave of the Fireflies on DVD in the UK).
The Otaku News Crew contacted Optimum Releasing and they confirmed that they do indeed have the rights, but no release date has been set, although it should be in 2005. DVD content has yet to be finalised. The US Appleseed press release has more details about the movie, as does the official Appleseed website.

Those informative people at ADV US have sent us their release details for February 8th. They've got quite a few titles coming out on that day, looking through the list there's pretty much something for everyone with:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum:05
- Get Backers Volume 4
- Mezzo Volume 3 (Final Volume)
- Wedding Peach Volume 9
- Sister Princess Volume 3
- Saint Seiya Volume 10
Normally with these releases we suggest a title or two, but because this selection is so varied, we say go with your instinct this time!
ADV US have sent us the details for their DVD releases on February 1st. They'll be releasing volume 3 of the popular show Peacemaker along with a live action series Shinobi.Joe
The people over at ADV Films US have sent us the details for a release due out on January 25th, Princess Tutu: Märchen, it's directed by Junichi Sato (Sailor Moon, Kaleido Star) and Shougo Kawamoto (You're Under Arrest! Season 2). ADV seem to be targeting the same fans who enjoy Sailor Moon and Kaleido Star with this title. So if you like your anime cute and cuddly this seems to be one for you.Joe
The folks over at Revolver Entertainment have sent us the details for Galerians: Rion, a CG film based on a PlayStation horror game Galerians, I've also wondered, would 3D CGI be classed as anime? Even if it is Japanese? Or is it one of those blurrily borderline questions? Anyway, it's out on the 24 of January, the same week as Cowboy Bebop Volume 1 and 2 are due to hit the stores in the UK.Joe
Those nice people at ADV Films UK have sent us the details for their February releases. The selection looks very promising as always with:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum Edition vol.1
- Last Exile Volume 2
- Mahoromatic - Automatic Maiden Volume 3 (Final)
- Kino's Journey Volume 3
- Azumanga Daioh Volume 4
- Angelic Layer Volume 6
- RahXephon-The Motion Picture: Pluralitas Concentio
The Otaku News Crew feel like their spoilt for choice this month, we recommend Eva Platinum Edition Volume 1, if you haven't already got Evangelion on DVD, Last Exile Volume 2, Azumanga Daioh Volume 4 and RahXephon The Motion Picture. Normally we tend to suggest two titles a month, but it's too hard to pick this time around!
ADV Films have sent us details about their new US DVD release, the dark and cutting edge Gantz. ADV pride themselves on showing the uncut version of the show, not seen on Japanese television. If you're used to cute anime, this may not be the best title for you, if you like something at the more violent end of the spectrum, then go for Gantz! However readers should not confuse Gantz with a mindless violence anime show (*cough* we'll mention no names here), it actually tackles some issues in a thought provoking manner, the two main characters are actually killed in the first episode (and that's not a spoiler either). Gantz also has a very strong helping of fan service!
The Gantz Volume 1 DVD only has two episodes on it (we believe to licensing difficulties), however the price has been lowered to reflect that.
We've got news in from the folks in ADV Films US, not only are they going to release Moeyo Ken: A Clash From the Past, but three other titles too:
- Burn Up!
- Chrono Crusade Volume 3
- The Super Milk-Chan Show Volume 4
So the years just started and ADV USA are churing out the titles, which is nice to see.
The good folks at ADV Films have sent us the details for a DVD due out next week - Moeyo Ken: A Clash From the Past. Featuring character designs by Rumiko Takahashi (responsible for the hugely popular Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha) so it looks like one of her own productions. Moeyo Ken, is a standalone DVD (in other words 1 volume only) and is due out on Tuesday 11 January 2005.Joe
We've just got the details in from ADV Films US about their latest DVD release on their ADV Kid's Label - Megaman: Upon A Star. Capcom's Hero is out to save Japan against the evil mad scientist Dr. Wily! It's out today.Joe
The Otaku News Crew have been sent a review copy of the UK edition of Cowboy Bebop Volume 1. Content wise it's mainly the same as the US Edition, featuring the first five episodes on disc one, English and Japanese Stereo tracks, and English subtitles. This hit series has been in the US since the year 2000, so some UK anime fans have had to wait almost five years to get hold of this show (or of course they imported the US edition, or a bootleg three disc edition commonly found from bad on-line retailers).
UK fans who haven't already got the US edition or taped it off cable TV when it first broadcast will probably want to know is the UK edition worth buying or should they go for the US edition instead? Read On to find out!

We've just heard from Dragon, the webmaster for United Publications (a popular UK import anime and manga retailer) that they've slashed their prices by up to 20% on most US DVDs due to the strength of the Pound, our UK readers with multiregion set-ups should check it out!

Those nice people at ADV UK have sent us details for their January releases.
The list is as follows:
- Get Backers Volume 1
- Gad Guard Volume 1
- Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi Volume 2
- Rune Soldier Volume 4
- Final Fantasy: Unlimited - Phase 6
- Slayers Premium
Interestingly Get Backers has been rumoured for UK release since AmeCon, when the dub was given an official preview screening. So for the January ADV list the Otaku News Crew recommend Get Backers and Slayers Premium since the Slayers range is always popular with fans.
ADV US have just sent us details of their January 4th line up, just as 2005 starts they'll be releasing three titles:
- DNAngel, Volume 2
- Dragon Knight: Wheel of Time
- Aura Battler Dunbine, Volume 11
Shortly after sending us the details for their December 28th releases, ADV Films US sent an additional press release for Samurai X: Reflection Director's Cut. Samurai X is also known Rurouni Kenshin, a wondering samurai with a reverse blade sword. The Reflection DVD concludes the Rurouni Kenshin story.Joe
Following on straight their December 14 details ADV US have sent us the details for their December 28 Releases.
They've got Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum:04, Robotech Remastered: New Generation Collection 2, Volume 7 (which is the final volume of this series), Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 Volume 2 under their Essential Anime Collection range and Volume 8 of Wedding Peach.
The Otaku News Crew recommend Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 Volume 2 since it has 9 episodes of the shown on for $19.98, even if Sylvia looks amazingly like Ifurita from EL Hazard! Failing that, you can never really go wrong with some Evangelion.
The good people over at ADV US have just sent us the release details for December 14. They've got quite a few titles coming out that week with:
- Get Backers Volume 3
- Mezzo Volume 2
- The third and final volume of New Fist of the North Star
- Saint Seiya Volume 9
- Sister Princess Volume 2
Get Backers is probably the most popular title out of this bunch of releases. Although it does depend on what your tastes are with anime others might enjoy Fist of the North Star more.
We've just heard from Bandai Europe that again some of their UK DVDs are going to be delayed.
Escaflowne Collection Box Volume 2 and Gundam Wing Box Set Volume 4 have both been put back to 13th December 2004.
Cowboy Bebop Volume 1 is now due out on 17th January 2005. Cowboy Bebop Volume 2 is set for 24th January 2005.
So if you get any money over Christmas you might want to save it for Cowboy Bebop Volumes 1 and 2! ^_^

On Friday the good folks at ADV UK sent us their press release for their December releases.
Anime wise they have the following:
- Last Exile Volume 1
- Kino's Journey Volume 2
- Mahoromatic Volume 2
- Azumanga Daioh Volume 3
- Angelic Layer Volume 5
- Generator Gawl: The Collection
They're also releasing Gun Crazy 2: Beyond The Law for fans of live action stuff. The Otaku News Crew highly recommend Last Exile, the UK edition's packaging will be similar to the Madman Entertainment's Australian release, and not the shiny US Edition from Geneon/Pioneer, which means you can clearly see the lovely artwork on the UK edition. We also recommend Azumanga Daioh since everyone needs to see the mishaps of Chiyo-chan and Osaka! ^_-
UK Anime fans better hold on to their cash just a bit longer. I've just heard that a few DVDs from Bandai are going to be delayed by a couple of weeks. This includes the first volume of Cowboy Bebop, which is well worth waiting for. I'm sure that those of you who already have the first Escaflowne DVD box set, can't wait to get hold of the second one. ^_^
The following titles have all be slipped back to Monday 6th December 2004
- Gundam Wing Box Set Vol. 4
- Gundam Wing Box Set Vol. 5
- Cowboy Bebop Vol 1
- Escaflowne Collection Box Vol. 2

The series, based on a game for the Sony Playstation, follows Claude Kenni, a crewmember on the spaceship Calnus, who is transported to an unfamiliar alien world and attempts to unlock the secret of a mysterious sattelite, will be available from January 4th.Joe
UK anime fans will want to take a look at ADV UK's October Newsletter. If you read Otaku News regulary you already know pretty much everything there already. Still it's better to read the same information twice than not at all! ^_-

We've got the release details for Bandai's UK DVD titles for this November.
Due out on the 15th of November:
- Escaflowne Collection Box Vol 1
- Gundam Wing Box Set Vol 4
- Gundam Wing Box Vol 5
- Hack Sign Vol 5
Due out on the 22nd of November:
- Cowboy Bebop Vol 1
- Escaflowne Collection Box Vol 2
So in one month the whole of Escaflowne will be available spread across two boxsets along with the first volume of Cowboy Bebop! That's a lot of great anime to watch. I cannot recommend Cowboy Bebop highly enough, it is to put it simply a fantastic show. Escaflowne is a great too and watching lots of episodes from the boxset in one go is advisable, since most of the episodes end on a cliff hanger meaning you just have to watch more!
A few years ago many anime fans in the UK thought they would never see the release of either of these titles, but to have them both being released on the same month is great news. The timing for the release of these shows is good too, being close to Christmas it means that you should give subtle hints to Santa! ^_-
ADV have announced that they will be releasing the sixth and final DVD for Azumanga Daioh, titled "Azumanga Daioh:Graduation!" It looks like one very amusing title has come to an end. Oh, they'll be releasing the Aura Battler Dunbine: Terror from Byston Wells! (that's Volume 10) on November 23rd as well.Joe
These days I swear ADV want to make otaku bankrupt! They've just sent us the US releases for November 16th. Here are the details:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum:3
- Chrono Crusade: Holy War
- El Paraíso de Hello Kitty: Aprendre con Cariño
- Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda: Season Four, Collection Three
- Wedding Peach: Scarlet Tears
I suggest you get hold of the second Chrono Crusade DVD, the first one proved popular with the readers of AnimeOnDVD.com
Those nice chaps over at ADV UK have sent in their November release details. The following titles are all due to hit the shelves on the 15th November:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion: Perfect Collection - Limited Edition

- Mazinkaiser vol.2
- Go Nagai's New Cutey Honey: Collection 2
- Rune Soldier volume 3

- Slayers Excellent
- Conduct Zero (live-action)
With this selection we recommend picking up Neon Genesis Evangelion: Perfect Collection, after all it is Eva and it is a revolutionary series. Perhaps it'll make a great Christmas present for the otaku in your life? Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is also worth a looking at especially since it's another Gainax title.

According to the Mainichi Daily News 5 people in Japan have been arrested for selling pirate anime DVDs using on-line auction sites. One family of pirates were attempting to sell 4,500 copies of Doraemon netting around 6.2 million yen. The pirate claimed he did it "...because my family business faced financial crisis".
Another pirate plotted with his wife and brother to sell pirated copies of Dragon Ball (it's not clear which Dragon Ball), netting about 20 million yen.
As the author of the Pirate Anime FAQ, it's interesting to see some solid figures about how profitable piracy can be, usually the information I get is hazy to say the least when it comes to the quantity of pirate goods sold. Recently I have found that the authorities in Japan have started to clamp down on piracy making a more visible effort to close operations like this.

ADV US have sent us details of their releases for November 2nd. First up is Robotech Remastered: New Generation Collection 1, something for the more nostalgic anime fan. The 2-disc set retails for $29.98 and has never before seen footage with a fresh clean transfer from the original 16mm film stock for the 13 complete episodes in both English 5.1 and Spanish 5.1.
Next up is New Fist of the North Star: The Forbidden Fist, in which Kenshiro gets up to his normal tricks and has to detail with demons that practice a mysterious killing techinque!!!
Those nice folks at Optimum Asia have sent us the press release for Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust on DVD, which will hit the shops on 18th October. The Age have just posted an interesting article about the accomplishments of Australian Anime DVD firm Madman Entertainment. Anime on DVD are reporting that the second volume Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex has a labelling error. The DTS DVD and the regular DVD are mislabelled. For people who have purchased the special edition all you have to do is use the normal DD DVD if you want to listen to it in DTS. However people who have bought the regular edition will really have the DTS DVD. As a result the sound is in DTS and in standard stereo and not the 5.1 surround mix on the normal DVD.
Some retailers are already returning the stock to Bandai, who will hopefully be offering a replacement program.
