Naruto for the UK (and Italy)

Date: 2005 February 27th Sunday [8:23] | Posted By: Azure
Category: > Anime

Tucked away on a news item on Anime News Service is the news that Naruto could be heading to the UK! According to ANS ĎBesides the USA the animation's debut in the EU sphere also advances with telecasts planned for Britain and Italyí. This means that Naruto isnít confirmed for UK and Italian fans but talks are underway. It also appears that merchandise and other Naruto franchises including the incredibly popular Naruto games might be heading this way far sooner than we thought! Whatís interesting is that itís TV Tokyo that made the announcement and not a European or American company. This may mean that the Japanese have finally sat up and started to take note of the way their titles are handled abroad. Itís thought that the very reason Naruto took so long to get licenced was Japanese awareness of it's popularity abroad.

Stock Market Linked To Sazae-san Viewing Figures

Date: 2005 February 17th Thursday [14:52] | Posted By: Joe
Category: > Anime > TV

The Anime News Network have translated an interesting if not bizarre story from Yahoo News Japan, that correlates the Japanese stock market and Sazae-san. Basically as the stock values go up the TV series' ratings go down, and as the stock goes down the ratings go up. There is some logic behind this though, when stock market goes down, household's don't go out on a Sunday and stay at home eating dinner while watching Sazae-san.

Anime Network Issuse A Call To Arms For All Anime Fans

Date: 2004 December 7th Tuesday [17:08] | Posted By: Joe
Category: > Anime > TV

The Otaku News Crew have just received a newsletter from Anime Network the cable and satellite channel that broadcasts nothing but anime (yay).

They've issued a "call to arms for all Anime Fans" with the headline:
"Anime Fans of America: YOUR TIME IS NOW!"
The newsletter states that Anime Network's continued operation and expansion is in jeopardy and to help improve things the channel wants anime fans to either fax or e-mail the cable companies' decision makers directly via www.theanimenetwork.com. The Anime Network also advise you to get everyone you know to do the same. You can even phone Comcast directly on (215) 665-1700 and say that you'll switch for Anime Network.

The Otaku News crew are uncertain how necessary this is, if it's a marketing ploy from the very clever folks at Anime Network, or if they are indeed in trouble and need fan support.

New Anime Channel To Hit North America?

Date: 2004 September 25th Saturday [9:26] | Posted By: Joe
Category: > Anime > TV

The Financial Times are reporting that Sony and Comcast are planning to launch at least three new TV channels in a joint venture. Sony and Comcast are still in the planning stages, but Sony are very keen to launch a US version of Animax - Sony's anime channel which is already established in Asia and Latin America.

At the moment it seems that it everything is still speculative. The Otaku News crew are wondering if the success of ADV's very own Anime Network is influencing the executives at Sony to launch Animax in the US.

UK readers will also note that Sony Home Entertainment use the Animax label on their UK DVD releases (Memories, Tokyo Godfathers).
