The inventor of instant ramen and founder of Nissin Food Products Co., Momofuku Ando has died. The purveyor of tasty Japanese noodle snacks and saviour of students everywhere died of heart failure in Osaka, at the Ikeda hospital aged 96.

The so-called "Ramen King" began packaging chicken ramen in a precursor to Nissin in 1958 after observing lines of post World War II people waiting for fresh ramen. This experience lead him to believe that "peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat" according to a source a Nissin.
Such is the popularity of instant ramen that they are now consumed around the world and have even been sent into space! Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi was sent specially packaged ramen to eat during his stay on the space shuttle Discovery, to which Ando was reported to have said "I'm happy I've realized my dream that noodles can go into space.".
