Million-dollar bathtub stolen from hotel near Tokyo.

Full Story

A gold bathtub worth nearly a million dollars was reported stolen recently from the Kominato Hotel Mikazuki in Kamogawa, located just south of Tokyo. The theft was reported by a worker at the resort hotel, who noticed that the fancy bathtub was missing from the guest bathroom on the 10th floor, where it was held in place by a chain attached to the door of a small section of the bathroom, rather than being riveted into the floor. The chain had been cut, allowing the person or persons involved to make off with the tub.

According to a local police official, Ogawa, there are currently no leads in the case. "We have no witness information and there are no video cameras," he said. "We have no idea who took it."

A mainstay at the hotel, the round tub was made of 18-karat gold, weighed 176 pounds and was flanked by two crane statues. Visitors are allowed to take dips in the glittering tub, which is only available for a few hours a day "for security reasons," according to the hotel’s web site.
