Fans can sign up for a chance to win a Gibson Les Paul guitar by anime series, Beck!
Full Story
Looking to get your first guitar but don't have the cash for it? FUNimation Entertainment and guitar manufacturer Gibson are offering a chance for a lucky fan to win a custom Les Paul guitar inspired by the anime series "Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad". The contest is coinciding with FUNimation's recent release of the series, about a young man named Koyuki who finds purpose when he joins a fledgling rock band, despite having no musical talent, after saving a member's dog.
With its rounded shape and often standard "Sunburst" finish (some custom models also have them in solid color finishes), the Gibson Les Paul guitar is one of the most recognized instruments in the world, used by all sorts of guitarists. First designed by jazz guitarist Les Paul (hence the name) in the 1950's, the model was one of the first solid-body guitars and is still used today with the design remaining virtually unchanged in the fifty years since its creation. Notable guitarists who have used the Gibson Les Paul include Jeff Beck (very appropriate, since his name is the same as the title), Eric Clapton, Ace Frehley, Slash, Ted Nugent and Frank Zappa. Paul McCartney has even used a custom "left handed" version of the model, and Zakk Wylde's custom "Bulls Eye" model is one of the recognized versions of the famous guitar.
Fans can sign up for the contest via a link through either FUNimation's "Beck" website or at Gibson.com, or send their entries via regular mail. The contest will end on August 31, at which a winner will be selected by random drawing. The official rules can be found at the registration site.
