Netflix, through IGN, have announced they have the streaming rights on all of their portals (UK/ROI, US, MX, NL, SAM, Nordic territories) for the Shinji Aramaki directed Space Pirate Captain Harlock feature film. The CG feature while not a box office success ($30M budget against $17M gross) has received mixed reviews and has been released in subtitled form in Hong Kong on blu ray and was released in Australia with sub and dub options from Anchor Bay. Produced by Toei Animation, the film is directed by Aramaki who has experience with CG features (Appleseed, Appleseed Ex Machina, Halo Legends, Starship Troopers: Invasion, Appleseed Alpha) and written by Kiyoto Takeuchi (Appleseed Ex Machina) and Harutoshi Fukui (Gundam UC OVA)
No word yet as to whether the English dub will be available with the Japanese language track on Netflix. The company had previously stated that their other 2014 anime release, Knights of Sidonia, would receive both tracks so hopes would be high the American streaming site would be able to use both tracks for the Harlock film. Netflix hopes to start streaming the film from August 1st onwards.
