The good folks from Anime Limited have revealed the UK release details for Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki on Blu-ray and DVD (combi). The documentary shot over two years charts legendary anime directory Hayao Miyazaki creating his first CG animation.

We've seen the broadcast version on NHK World and it's certainly worth watching as it shows the behind the scenes creative processes. There's lots of little gems in this. Subtle moments you might miss too. There's a great moment where Miyazaki draws a storyboard for the CG team to use and they're clearly amazed by the quality and draughtsmanship of something that's supposed to be a very rough piece of work.

Miyazaki is famed for founding Studio Ghibli, where he created many of his movies including Spirited Away, Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, and many more. They can currently be enjoyed on Netflix.

The feature is due out on Monday 13th April 2020. You can pre-order it directly from Anime Limited or from Amazon.co.uk.

Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki - Blu-ray/DVD combi

A documentary about the legendary film maker creating his first CG animation project.

In 2013, Academy Award-winning (2014: Honorary Award; 2002: Best Animated Feature, Spirited Away) film director and Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, creator of such legendary films as Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, suddenly announced his retirement. But still he couldn't shake his burning desire to create.

After an encounter with young CGI animators, Miyazaki embarks on a new project using these techniques. But the artist, who has been adamant about hand-drawn animation, confronts many challenges that threaten to cancel the film. Can an old master who thinks he's past his prime shine once again?

Shot over two years, Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki provides a unique, fascinating glimpse into the mind and creative process of one of animation's most iconic storytellers.

Contains the full documentary on Blu-ray and DVD (in Japanese with English subtitles.)

Also included as a bonus is the condensed 48 minute TV Broadcast version of the documentary with English audio voice over.
