Full Story

Been wondering when the next volume of the new Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki OAV series is due out? Well, wonder no more. FUNimation Entertainment has announced on their Tenchi Muyo webpage the release dates for both the second AND the third DVD volumes of the series. The first volume, Here Comes The Bride, was released back in July of last year and fans have been waiting patiently for the next installment.

Tenchi Muyo, focusing on the misadventures of not-so-average teenager Tenchi Masaki and the bevy of alien beauties – space pirate Ryoko, haughty princess Ayeka, cute little Sasami, ditzy space detective Mihoshi and child-like genius Washu – living with him, has been a fan-favorite among American fans since it first debuted at the start of the anime craze. Aside from the original OAV series, there has two television series (both of which retold the story from the beginning), several comic books, video games, and much more. Many fans, however, see the original OAV series as the ‘true’ version of Tenchi and have waited anxiously for the continuation. The closest that has arrived was the spin-off series Tenchi Muyo: GXP, featuring unlucky Tenchi lookalike Seina and his misadventures as part of the Galaxy Police, which definitely has ties to the OAV series. Fans rejoiced when the new OAV series was announced, and then later picked up for American audiences by FUNimation.

The new OAV series, picking up where the last one left off (released over ten years ago) finds life going on usual for the Masaki household. But things get shaken up with the arrival of Tenchi’s long-lost older sister, who brings with her Tenchi’s new fiancee! As if Tenchi doesn’t have enough women troubles already. But what they don’t know is that the mysterious Lady Tokimi, a god-like being with connections to Washu and Tsunami, Jurai’s patron goddess, has her eye on Tenchi, and has sent her agent to gather information. But this agent, Z, has his own plans...

The bad news for the release of the new volumes is that the second one won’t be available until September 12, 2006, more than a year after the release of Volume One. FUNimation has not yet released any information regarding the reasons for the delay. The good news is that fans won’t have to wait as long for Volume Three, which will be released on November 7. Extras for Volume Two will include content from the original Japanese release, while Volume Three will be available in a special collector’s edition. More download goodies from the FUNimation website for the series will also be available sometime later this month.
