Full Story

FUNimation Entertainment has made a major announcement that’s sure to please anime and manga fans everywhere in the U.S. At this year’s Anime Expo, renowned artists CLAMP will be appearing as the convention’s guests of honor. This will be their first tour of the United States, a visit being co-sponsored by FUNimation, Anime Expo, Del Rey Manga and Tokyopop.

"Anime Expo is pleased and honored to welcome CLAMP to the United States," said Anime Expo 2006 Vice Chair Liyin Liang. "We are so excited that they are joining our attendees and other special guests for our 15th Year Crystal Anniversary."

"CLAMP is one of the most acclaimed groups of artists in Japan," said Gen Fukunaga, President and CEO of FUNimation. "We are extremely excited to be working with everyone to bring their unique art to the United States."

The four women team of CLAMP – consisting of Satsuki Igarashi, Ageha Ohkawa, Tsubaki Nekoi and Mokona – made their debut in Japan in 1989 and have since become some of the most popular manga artists anywhere. Some of their titles, including X, Magic Knight Rayearth and Cardcaptor Sakura, helped to spearhead the rise in popularity of anime and manga in the United States, thus making the group one of the most recognized names among American fans.

As the guests of honor at Anime Expo, being held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA from July 1-4, CLAMP will be involved with the opening ceremonies, be part of a discussion panel as well as limited autograph sessions for their U.S. and international fans. They will also present a premiere screening of the Tsubasa anime series, based on the group’s latest manga, being published in America by Del Rey Manga.
