Tarantino announces two possible Kill Bill anime projects.

Full Story

Remember the kick-ass anime sequence in Kill Bill: Volume 1? The one done by Production I.G. that told the origin of O-Ren, played by Lucy Liu? Well, director Quentin Tarantino did, as he announced that he plans to return to the Kill Bill universe with not one, but TWO anime films based on the movie. Tarantino announced his intentions at the San Diego Comic Con, where he was premiering Grindhouse, his new horror collaboration with Sin City director Robert Rodriguez.

After watching the first Kill Bill and its I.G.-produced anime scene, fans speculated whether or not there would be another one in the follow-up, Kill Bill: Volume 2. Sadly, there was not, though rumors of interest in doing more anime projects relating to Kill Bill, as well as a possible Volume 3, went around.

According to Tarantino, the first of the new films will be a prequel, focusing on the backstory of the title character Bill, played by David Carradine, and his training under various masters, including vicious taskmaster Pai Mei. The second film will be a sequel, with the plot revolving around Uma Thurman’s character the Bride following the end of Volume 2. Other details, such possible release dates, remain unknown, and there is some skepticism as to whether or not the films will even be made. Time will tell.
