Category > Anime > DVD

The good folks from anime distributors Manga Entertainment UK have just sent us their latest UK DVD and blu-ray release line up for autumn and winter 2019.

They've got a good selection of shonen titles available including more Black Clover, Naruto Shippuden, Boruto, along with Dragon Ball Super.

They'll also be releasing the first parts of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Goblin Slayer Season One. The former is a story about an average salaryman who dies and gets reincarnated as a blob of slime (as one does). While Goblin slayer is set in your regular D&D type world about a hero called Goblin slayer, who takes on the task of killing goblin infestations before they become more troublesome, fan service and violence ensue.

Interestingly enough they've also branched out into some Cartoon Network titles, they'll be releasing Adventure Time as Individual Complete First to Fifth Seasons, along with a 1 to 5 collection on DVD an blu-ray. Steven Universe Seasons 1 & 2 will also be released. Samurai Jack The Complete Series (Seasons 1-5) is due to hit shelves on 2nd December and includes the long awaited 5 season. We must admit we've got a soft spot for these titles. Sure they're not anime, but they're very well done and a pleasure to watch.

His live performance at Japan House started with him singing and playing one of his songs on guitar, then he activated his loop pedal so the guitar tune continues and walks over to a drawing desk and draws for everyone to see on a projected screen. Once he finished drawing he returned to his guitar to finish the song!

Manga Exhibition at The British Museum in 2019

Date: 2018 December 05 21:05 | Posted By:

Category > Anime

The good folks at the British Museum have just announced a major manga exhibition set to run during 2019. Called Manga マンガ it will explore the phenomenon of manga, and will be the largest exhibition of the art form ever to take place outside of Japan.

Why is the British Museum hosting a manga event? Well, it's not a secret, they've hosted events related to manga before such as Hokusai beyond the Great Wave, plus even had manga set at the Museum in the form of Professor Munakata's British Museum adventure. Speaking to some staff there we know they're massive manga fans too.

Many of the objects at the exhibition are loans coming to the UK for the first time. At the moment they're tight lipped about what exactly will be there as they want to keep it a surprise, but the official graphics used with the announcement includes Golden Kamuy's Asirpa. So we're guessing they will have some of Noda Satoru's work. We know very little else about the exhibit yet, but they do tease other things on a blog post accompanying the event. Pikachu himself was also present at Museum for the announcement.

The British Museum normally deliver something special, so we know we'll be in for a cultural treat when the exhibition runs next year.

The event is set to run from 23rd May - 26th August 2019 at Room 30 in the British Museum. The event is ticketed and costs £19.50 for adults, while free for under 16s, plus a 2 for 1 ticket deal for students on Fridays. Members of the British Museum can get in for free. So head to London!

Category > Anime

Streaming Service Netflix have just revealed that they will be showing anime Neon Genesis Evangelion worldwide starting from Spring 2019. Announced on their NXOnNetflix Twitter feed as a teaser trailer of the show.

The original Neon Genesis Evangelion TV Series is generally regarded as one of the greatest anime TV shows of it's era. In the mid 1990's it lit the flames for a new wave of anime that still carries on to this day. Without the anime boom it caused the anime industry itself would be very different. Australian Anime Distributors Madman Entertainment owed their early success to Neon Genesis Evangelion. For many it was the watershed title that helped them discover anime.

Written and directed by the otaku's otaku Hideaki Anno the multi-layered story blends a bleak future mixed with giant robots, nostalgia for 1960's adventure, along with Christian symbolism and nods to Tokusatsu, Thunderbirds, along with a special blend of whiny teenage angst and reasons to hate your father. You'll never listen to Ode to Joy the same way again.

The hugely influential show, spawned some movies, plus the rebuild series of new movies retelling the story with a different take, various manga spin offs, plus an endless stream of merchandise.
