On 10th August to thank all the fans of his hit basketball manga Slam Dunk, Takehiko Inoue has placed full page adverts in the morning editions of Japan's six main newspapers (Yomiuri, Asahi, Mainichi, Nikkei, Sankei, and Tokyo). The adverts simply read "Thank you for 100 million volumes sold". Each newspaper carried a different advert / sketch with a different message. The sketches can be seen on the special commemorative site.
Apparently this type of thank you message is a first with a staggering estimated cost of 160 million yen.
Also take a look at the Slam Dunk 100 Million Volumes Sold Commemorative Site.

I even get a mention in the interview because I've sent them a special printed version of the Pirate Anime FAQ to help out, plus I'm running a panel there too! So if you're going to AmeCon go to my panel, please ^_^;;
