What's interesting in the press release is that it actually states sales figures, something you rarely see for the anime industry. It'll be nice if all anime companies releases sales figures for their titles. However this is valuable information for sales and marketing teams, which is why most companies like to keep this these details secret.

Although we haven't seen this film yet, we must admit the casting for Nana Osaki is excellent.
While Viz seem to be releasing some great live action titles on DVD at the moment. We do wish they would release the live action Train Man TV series.

Classic anime fans in the UK who can get to their local HMV are in for a treat. HMV have an exclusive deal on the Mysterious Cities of Gold DVD Box set. It's in stock in their stores, and on the HMV website too. Fans should note that the official release date for this DVD is 23rd June 2008, but the highstreet shop seem to have made some sort exclusive deal with the distributors. As far as we're aware, no other retailer has the DVD yet.
We are certain that this is not an error on their website, as we have visited our local HMV and seen copies on shelves to buy.
Many current anime fans will remember the French Japanese co-production with great nostalgia, and have been screaming for a DVD release for years, every so often a rumour would crop up, but never actually amount to anything, years of waiting many fans just assumed that the series would never get released in the UK, but finally it has. ^_^

We've received a press release from LDMS who will be now be distributing ADV DVD titles in the UK, after ADV closed their UK offices. The press release details the release schedule up until May 2008.
After ADV UK closing down it's good to see that their titles will be still be distributed, but it's sad to see that ADV UK had to shut shop, the UK staff there were more than just people doing their jobs, they were actual anime fans with a passion for what they were doing which does make a difference. ADV UK's presence at anime events will be sorely missed. They were more than just another company, they were actually part of the UK anime scene. It was a shame to see these people lose their jobs. We wish them the best of luck in finding a new careers.
It will be interesting to see if LDMS will be active in anime fan circles as ADV UK was.

Animated classic Mysterious Cities of Gold will be released on DVD in the UK in February 2008 by Fabulous Films. Many of our readers will no doubt remember this series airing on TV as children on CBBC in the UK, ABC in Australia, Nickelodeon the US or even NHK in Japan.
Fans have been calling for an English DVD release for some time. Fabulous films previously released the first twelve episodes on Inu Yasha in the UK in one of of the ugliest box sets we've seen for years. Lets hope the MCOG set is nicer. Fabulous Films do have a form up on their splash page asking about features, so get suggesting. We said decent packaging and the good old CBBC MCOG sing-along.

UK Anime fans will be pleased to hear that Satoshi Kon's latest masterpiece Paprika will be released on DVD on 24th September 2007, Tekkonkinkreet also hits the shelves too and we look forward to catching it.
To be honest, we can't recommend Paprika highly enough, it's the best English language anime release of 2007. This is one you must simply add to your collection, especially if you like Kon's other works (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and Paranoia Agent), then you'll really get a kick out of Paprika, Kon's on top form here (as always), and uses animation in his usual mind bending ways.

We've just discovered some interesting TV adverts in the UK for a new magazine publication called Manga Force. The magazine will be published fortnightly, with an anime DVD and the magazine will focus on that title. Manga Force is a joint effort between Manga Entertainment UK and Hachette Partworks. As usual for a publication from Manga Entertainment they insist on calling anime "manga", which has often led to confusion when people discover Japanese animation. The magazine states it's the perfect partner to your DVD collection, and will give you everything you need to build your manga knowledge (check our FAQ for recommend books which will really help you do that), each issue will have synopses, filmographies, writer bibliographies and behind the scenes footage. Issues will cover the following Manga Entertainment titles:
Evangelion (It's not clear which Evangelion movies will be released with the issue)
Blood The Last Vampire
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Macross Plus
The first issue is priced at £2.99 with all subsequent issues priced at £8.99, which is reasonable considering that the average Manga Entertainment title sells for £12.99 without a magazine.
Their website has some introductory subscription deals, although we're curious to see what they could fill a full 50 issues with. No start date is published on-line.

Ahh viral marketing Sony doesn't know how you work, but will it work for the American branch of Haruhi's SOS club?
After a lot of ambiguity it seems that the Huruhi website that was being circulated around the blogosphere is official and not a german esper plot.
The North American release is a joint effort between Kadokawa Pictures USA and Bandai Entertainment.
The website goes to a lot of effort to recreate the clubs website from the anime . There's also a myspace account link where Kyon asks to meet normal people (on myspace?), as well as a cute live action movie. Before you all start scowling, it's supposed to be one of Huruhi's movies not a dub preview.

The nice folks from ADV Films UK have sent us the details of their lastest DVD release. Unlike the usual monthly release, they'll be releasing a DVD with selected episodes to sample. They're marketing it as a taster DVD, or to give it a more Japanese theme a Bento Box. The disc will have 4 episodes on a single DVD, retailing at a very reasonable £5.99, considering a normal anime DVD with 4 episodes on would retail for more than twice the price. It's due for release on 16th October 2006.
The DVD will contain:
- Area 88 - Episode 1
- Gilgamesh - Episode 6
- Get Backers - Episode 9
- Cromartie High School - Episode 9
This should prove a great way of sampling episodes, after all, splashing out £6 to find out if you like a selection of different series is a lot better than paying for a whole disc with the same series on and finding it's not your thing.
