Studio Ghibli have officially announced their next movie, which is due to hit Japan in July 2006. Gedo Senki (Gedo War History) is based on Ursula K. Le Guin's Tales from Earthsea Collection. Controversially Hayao Miyazaki son, Goro Miyazaki will be directing the film.

According to Anime News Service the new Pokemon Movie out in 2006 will be titled: Pokemon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea. The announcement was made on TV Tokyo's kodomo TV show, Oha Star. The story is about the discovery of a mysterious "legendary" Pokemon who comes from deep in the ocean. The Movie opens in July 2006 in theatres across Japan. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, have just published a press release revealing the long list of ten films to compete for the Animated Feature Oscar. Three of the top films on the list will then go on to be nominated for the Oscar. Anime fans should be cheering for Howl's Moving Castle and Steamboy.
It's clear to see that the competition is very tough this year, with Madagascar, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit; also in the running.

According to Anime News Network, it is reported that Hayao Miyazaki’s Son, Goro Miyazaki will direct the next Studio Ghibli Movie. Goro Miyazaki has been the director of Ghibli Museum until recently. The film is to be released in summer of 2006 and other details will be released on Dec 13th. The announcement was made by Toshio Suzuki at Meiji University and he reported Hayao Miyazaki to be "fiercely against the idea."

Some good news for FMA fans as it is reported on Anime News Service that the release of the movie "Conqueror of Shambala Gekijyouban Hagane no Renkinjutsushi - Shanbara wo Yuku Mono" is expected on the 25th of January 2006 in Japan. Sony Music announced that there will be three versions of the movie: a Complete Production Limited Edition DVD (8,925 Yen), Regular Version DVD (3,990 Yen) and UMD Video Version (3,990 Yen) will be sold. It is important to note that the limited edition version is English subtitled, contains 2 omake discs and a guide book. During its theatrical run the film drew 1.1 million in attendance, and a profit of 1.3 billion Yen. Manga sales for 12 volumes on the market has exceeded 19 million copies and of the 13 volumes of the TV anime put on the market, sales have exceeded one million units.

According to Anime News Network the second movie from the Zeta Gundam Saga premiered last weekend at Japanese theatres. ‘Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation II-Lovers’ made it at the number 5 spot whilst the first movie, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation -Heirs to the Stars- opened in third spot in late May and broke daily box office records at six Japanese theaters.
The final installment of the Zeta Gundam Saga- "Love is the Pulse of the Stars" will be released to theaters Saturday, March 4th, 2006. Some official promotional material will be released and a small image of a promotional poster for Zeta 3 is hosted on the official website.

Good News for Nana fans as there are plans for a sequel to the hugely successful Live-Action which was released a couple of months ago. The filming will start next summer and Director Kentaro Otani will work along the original cast and staff. The Sequel will be released in 2007 according to the official website.
Nana the Live-Action made huge success with two two singles (Mika Nakashima starring NANA "Glamorous Sky" and Yuna Ito's "Endless Story")topping the charts, and with the 13th volume of the series bringing comic sales up to 25million copies.
It seems that the sequel will continue to expand the Nana craze.

Otaku News have just discovered that the London Children's Film Festival will feature at least two excellent Miyazaki productions. My Neighbour Totoro, which is a simply magical feature that all children should watch will be screened on Sunday 13th November 2.15pm. Totoro was so popular, it because Studio Ghibli's logo, and is one of the most loved icons of Japan.
The Crimson Pig (better known as Porco Rosso in anime circles), is a film showing Miyazaki's love of aircraft and pigs. Much has been said about this excellent film. Younger children will enjoy it's light hearted comedy elements, while older children and adults will notice more in depth side of the story about a man sick of war and the rise of fascism. According to Anime News Service, another Manga-Based Live-Action will be produced. This time it’s the popular Manga ‘Tokyo Daigaku Monogatari’ by Mangaka Tatsuya Egawa who also was behind the popular Manga ‘Golden Boy’.
The lead role was given to twenty year old actress Yoko Mitsuya who is widely known for 87cm chest size.
The story is about high school students who aim to enter the prestigious Tokyo University. When high school boy Murakami falls in love with his classmate Haruka, it is love at first sight. But as luck would have it his friend Sano also falls in love with her and is getting in the way.
The Film is to open next spring and an adaptation of the story to TV drama and animation has already been done.

As many Anime News Sites have been reporting that the new Takashi Mike Live-Action film was based on the popular manga Waru by Yukari Hashida, it is now reported that actually there was an error and the movie is based on a similarly named 1970’s manga by Hisao Maki.
Therefore a possible disappointment for Yaoi fans as in this version of Waru there are no boy to boy relationships.
Hashida’s Waru was creditted as being "an edgy action-packed tale of outlaw swordsman Youji Himuro".

Central Park Media have just sent us details about their Kakurenbo: Hide & Seek website. In addition to information about the CG animation's awards, creators, and English and Japanese voice actors (including Junko Takeuchi - the voice of Naruto), there's a special video recorded at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

According to Anime News Service, Toei Animation Co announced that the Live-Action movie of Saikano (She the Ultimate Weapon) will premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival on the 29th of October.
The Lead Actress portraying Chise, the deadly war cyborg disguised as a student is Aki Maeda who took part in Battle Royale.

Ursula K. Le Guin’s classic A Wizard of Earthsea might possibly be the next film project Hayao Miyazaki is working on. Earthsea was adapted by the Sci Fi channel last year for a live action mini-series, that Le Guin publicly stated her dislike of because of the liberties it took with the story and concepts.
Ghibli has yet to make an official announcement, and it is perfectly possible this is all wild speculation since Miyazaki has admitted in the past he’s a fan of the book.

According to Manganews the controversial Oav ‘Boku Wa Imouto ni koi o Suru’ will be adapted into a drama Live-Action. The Story is about a guy named Yori who is in love with his twin sister, Iku. Auditions for Misc. characters have already started.

It's already had a few special art house and festival showings in the UK, but these sold out ridiculously quickly. An uncut version of the original 1954 classic Godzilla will be released on 14th October for the first time uncut in the UK on DVD and for a limited run at selected cinemas. If you’ve seen the original Godzilla dubbed it’s likely to be the American re-edit which also featured Raymond Burr, so the uncut version is definatly worth a look for a darker take on everyones' favourite giant monster.

More details about Honey & Clover becoming a Live-Action film.
According to the Anime News Network, Sakurai Sho (23), member of the popular J-Pop music group ARASHI, will play the lead male role as Takemoto Yuuta.
Other Cast members include: Aoi Yuu (20), Iseya Yusuke (29) Kase Ryo (30), and Seki Megumi (19).
The movie is scheduled to open in summer 2006 and will be directed by Masahiro Takada, a commercial advertisement director, making this his debut as a feature director.

According to Anime News Network the premiere of Howl’s Moving Castle in the U.K is set to be on the 2nd of September at 19:30 hrs at The British Academy (BAFTA - Princess Anne Theatre) 195 Piccadilly London, UK, to inaugurate BAFTA's London Japanese Film Festival.
A reception hosted by the Japanese Embassy at 18:30 is to be held before the screening. Tickets are £10 for the combined event for non BAFTA members. More information may be found on the BAFTA website.
Otaku will note that this is not the first screening of Howl's Moving Castle in the UK, since the first public screening was held in Cambridge and featured a Question and Answers session with Howl's original author Diana Wynne Jones.

It seems that Millennium actress will have Atlantic accents according to reports from Eyeonanime.co.uk. It’s a bit of a shame for fans that were genuinely excited to see a real British dub, but it seems that Manga Entertainment feel that it will be too jarring to hear English voices on a dub.

More movies based on Japanese Manga are taking Hollywood by storm. Hitoshi Iwaaki's popular manga Kiseiju is going to remade by Hollywood.
Takashi Shimizu, who made his Hollywood debut with the remake The Grudge, will be directing this project by New Line Cinema Productions. Shimizu will be a supervisor in the writing of the script and the film will be produced by his partner Takashige Ichise, as well as Don Murphy of Angry Films and Lisa Henson and Kristine Belson of Henson Pictures. The English title is Parasyte and it is said that production will begin once the sequel to The Grudge is finished.

VIZ Media, LLC, has announced that they will be releasing the award winning Japanese film Kamikaze Girls theatrically in several major North American cities. According to Akadot the popular classic by the late Osamu Tezuka, Black Jack will become an animated movie and will be directed by Makoto Tezuka, Osamu's eldest son. The movie's release is scheduled for December 17th.
Makoto Tezuka took over directing the animated TV series of Black Jack since last October and singer Hiro's new release 'Clover' is to be Black Jack Ending theme song.
The Movie will be titled "Black Jack the two doctors of darkness" and the story is about the infamous protagonist Black Jack, an unlicensed genius surgeon whose service comes at impossibly high prices, and his rival Dr. Kiriko, who practices euthanasia rather thoughtlessly to end his patients' pain. The movie portrays the two doctors as they engage in a battle over life.

According to Answers.com, the Fujiko Movie Studio announced that the 2005 Doreamon Movie:"Nobita no Kyoryuu" (Nobita's Dinosaur), was postponed until the spring of 2006.
Doraemon made its first debut in 1970 with stories being published in 45 books and after that an anime series was produced. Makoto Shinkai will be in London on August 12th to attend a screening of Voices of a Distant Star and She and Her cat at the NFT, which will be followed by a talk by the creator himself. It was inevitable someone would make a big budget Transformers film, especially with the climate for anime inspired films. Rumours have been floating around for some time but Spielberg has finally confirmed the project and released some details. The film will be directed by Michael Bray with Spielberg as executive producer. According to BBC News, the British Film Institute have complied a list of films that every child should have watched by the age of 14.
The list was put together with help from the public and is intended to spark debate about what children should watch.
Unsurprisingly, The Wizard of Oz, ET and Toy Story are listed, but it also seems that BFI (or perhaps the public in general) know what they're talking about by suggesting Spirited Away, Hayao Miyazaki's tale of a girl drawn into a world of magic after her parents pig out on forbidden food.
The BFI selected 50 films and eventually whittled them down to 10.

FilmFour have teamed up with Somerset House "to create a night at the movies like no other". They mention the "cutting edge technology and the splendour of the 18th century courtyard" and rightly so.
On Thursday 18th August, 6:30pm they'll be screening Studio Ghibli's superb Spirited Away, the only Japanese anime film to have won an Oscar. Tickets cost £12.50, with all phone and web bookings carrying an £1.75 charge per booking (not per ticket). As of yet it's not clear if the screening will be subbed or dubbed, but we will chase it up and post more details as soon as we find out.
If you haven't seen Spirited Away on a cinema screen yet, the Otaku News Crew highly recommend it.

Yahoo News Japan recently stated rumours of Princess Diana's ghost seen in the British movie Creep (also known as 0-34 in Japan). This rumour has been circling around Japan for a few weeks, though fans in the West have yet to say anything (after some site searching). Out of curiousity, I think I'll have to watch the movie over again...
The particular scene, was apparently shot near the location of Princess Diana's funeral in September, 1997.
