V&A Exhibit - Encounters: The Meeting of Asia and Europe 1500-1800

I've just found out that the Victoria and Albert Museum in London are running an Exhibition called Encounters: The Meeting of Asia and Europe 1500-1800. It will have some great Japanese items, including:

- a six panel gold leafed paper screen
- an elaborate painting with gold on silk
- armour from the shogun Tokugawa Hidetada
- a Portable Christian Altar
- Two Dutchmen and two courtesans Hanging scroll
- Food Box (surely they mean bento box?)

Many items are being shown for the first time, so we recommend a visit.

Encounters runs from the 23rd September until 5th December.

10.00-17.45 daily
10.00-22.00 Wednesdays and last Friday of the month (selected galleries remain open after 17.45).
Exhibition closes five minutes before Museum.
Last entry 17.20 (last ticket sold 17.15).
Late opening last entry 21.20 (last ticket sold 21.15)

Exhibition Admission
Full £8. Senior citizens £6.
Full-time students and 12-17 year olds £5.
Art Fund members half price.
Family Ticket: £18, 2 adults & 2 children (12-17 yrs), £10, 1 adult & 2 children (12-17 yrs).
Free to under 12s, disabled people and up to two carers, ES40-holders, V&A Members and Patrons, ICOM/Museums Association cardholders.

A joint ticket is available for Encounters and Christopher Dresser (9 September -5 December) or Encounters and Black British Style (7 October 2004 - 16 January 2005). Full: £10. Concessions: £8/£6
