Barbican Jazz plays host to three rapidly rising jazz stars, all making their London concert debut following impressive club shows over the past year.

The musical whirlwind that is Hiromi has made a huge impact in recent years – and already this year, she has released an acclaimed duo record with Chick Corea, and completed a packed run at Ronnie Scott's. Mentored by Ahmad Jamal, and citing influences from Bach to Oscar Peterson, Lizst and King Crimson, she has evolved a style that crosses boundaries and mesmerises audiences. Her Barbican appearance sees her playing a rare solo set. 'Hiromi's virtuosity, verve and outsize imagination make for a diverting combination'
- Washington Post

Tineka Postma has emerged as a leading light in a new generation of Dutch jazz players, a massively gifted saxophonist and composer who is now making a real impression on the world scene since winning an International Jazz Revelation award in 2006. Her playing exemplifies the energy and excitement of mainstream jazz but with an entirely contemporary freshness, and she heads up a quartet that brings two great American players back to the Barbican. Pianist Geri Allen is a major force in jazz today – an established leader and composer in her own right as well as collaborating with Ornette Coleman, Charles Lloyd and Betty Carter. Terri Lyne Carrington is another bandleader of distinction, as well as being drummer of choice for the likes of Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Cassandra Wilson and Stan Getz.

Israeli-born, resident in France, serial award-winner Yaron Herman has taken the European scene by storm, touring intensively across the continent and further afield – and his previous UK performances have had the local wires buzzing. This prodigiously talented pianist takes material that ranges from jazz standards, to Bjork, Scriabin, Britney Spears and his own songs, to create a music infused with raging energy and moody lyricism, in a trio setting of enormous power and subtlelty, featuring bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Gerald Cleaver.
