MCM Enjoys Record-Breaking 2014 - UK & EU Expansion on 2015 Agenda
Three brand new shows, record-breaking attendance figures and a first foray into mainland Europe; 2014 has proved to be a milestone year for MCM Expo Group; unquestionably the most successful to date. Overall, 401,000 visitors came to MCM events throughout 2014, compared to 258,000 in 2013.
Fittingly, the 25th MCM London Comic Con back in May was also the first event to pass the 100,000 visitor mark - a whopping 32 per cent increase on the same show in 2013, already the biggest event of its kind in Europe. The second London Comic Con of the year proved May was no freak occurrence, with a turn out of over 110,000. October's show also featured Sony PlayStation as an exhibitor for the first time and growth in support from major brands such as 2K Games, Warner Brothers, Ubisoft, GAME, Pokémon, Bandai Namco, Nintendo, Koei Tecmo, Universal and Manga Entertainment.
Beyond the capital, 2014 witnessed the launch of a trio of brand new overseas shows - MCM Ireland Comic Con, MCM Belfast Comic Con and Stockholm Comic Con, which ran in partnership with Swedish event organiser Artexis and attracted c.31,000 visitors.
Meanwhile, MCM's existing comic cons in Birmingham, Manchester, Telford and Glasgow all continued to enjoy strong growth in 2014. Expanded to run across the whole weekend for the first time, Manchester Comic Con saw over 30,000 fans through the doors of Manchester Central - a 55 per cent increase on 2013. Visitor numbers also soared at both of this year's Birmingham events, with the most recent show in November recording an attendance of almost 35,000, 33 per cent up on the previous year.
But if 2014 has been a resounding success, 2015 promises to be a truly monster year for MCM Expo Group. Not only is our flagship London Comic Con growing to run across three full days but we will also be debuting our second Swedish show, Comic Con Malmö, on 11-13 September 2015 ...and there's plenty more exciting European news to come!
Across the globe, comic cons continue to soar in popularity with games, sci-fi and comics increasingly part of the mainstream consciousness. 2014 saw MCM Expo Group cement its place as Europe's leading comic con organiser; we're looking forward to doing even more in 2015.
