Nintendo's new handheld has broken console sales records in the UK selling almost 87,000 units with over 3 million being sold worldwide. Super Mario 64 DS, Wario Ware: Touched! and Rayman DS were the top three selling launch titles.

Nintendo are obviously pleased with the handheld success, especially since Sony has had to delay the UK launch of its rival PSP handheld. Sony is holding back stocks of the PSP to meet American demands. It will be interesting to see what kind of effect this has on the consol market in the UK. The PSP has technically higher specifications and is backed by might of Sony, but the DS’s innovative touch screen and lower price tag may see it win out in the end,especially with this unexpected head start.
