Sea Change Group Show at the Mark Jason Gallery from 1st to 23rd February 2007

The Mark Jason Gallery, the London gallery committed to developing the careers of the best young artists, presents the group show Sea Change by an array of emerging printmakers – curated by Edd Pearman, whose own work hangs alongside that of Chie Kutsuwada, Adam Bridgland, Tom Leighton and Sarah Bridgland – from Thursday 1st February to Friday 23rd February 2007 at the Mark Jason Gallery located at 1 Bell Street, London, NW1.

From Tom Leighton's digital manipulation of photography to Chie Kutsuwada's computerised painterly prints, curator Edd Pearman brought these artists together through the common theme of the innovation within their respective medium. In their own unique way, each artist has explored the complexity and diversity of the printmaking process.

Sea Change – Artists

Adam Bridgland – Adam Bridgland was born in 1979 in Leicester. Following graduation from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in 2006, he has exhibited in a number of galleries around the UK. He has received both the Davis Langdon RCA Award 2006 and the Noel Spencer Award for Printmaking. His work is often colourful, with much of the subject matter taken from the everyday world. His works are often pieces that have a heavy leaning towards 'Englishness' or kitsch.

Sarah Bridgland – Sarah Bridgland is a London based Fine Artist who graduated from the RCA with an MA in Printmaking in 2006. Since then her work has been included in various group shows including this year's New Contemporaries. She is currently working towards her first solo show which is to be held in South London in October 2007.

Matt Brown – Matt Brown was born in 1979, and is currently based in London. He has shown in galleries around the UK, and has been the recipient of the Centre Prize Award and the Tim Mara Printmaking Award.

Chie Kutsuwada – Originally from Japan, Chie Kutsuwada graduated with a MA degree from the RCA, specialising in computer graphic and the digital printmaking. After the graduation, Chie continues to work developing her imaginary world and exhibiting across the UK. Her works are in private and corporate collections including RCA print archive and Calyon Bank.

Tom Leighton – Tom Leighton was born in 1981 and is currently living and working in London. Clearly based in the urban landscape, his images aim to float unevenly between document and fiction. Digital montage allows him to present a vision of a metropolis which is recognisable yet unsettlingly displaced from reality. His works have been shown in galleries in New York and London.

Peter Lloyd – Since graduating from the RCA in 2000, where he received the Augustus Martin award and a British Airways travel scholarship, Peter Lloyd has shown and is collected widely in the UK, Canada and South Korea. Lloyd was recently commissioned by Volvo, Aspex Gallery and Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth to produce five designs which were produced as banners and displayed around the city and seafront to celebrate the arrival of competitors in the, intercontinental, Volvo Ocean Race. Other projects have been commissioned by clients including Virgin and We Love You. Based in Winchester, where he has his screen printing studio, Lloyd is currently a Senior Lecturer at Southampton Solent University.

Edd Pearman – Edd Pearman is a printmaker who was born in Aldershot, United Kingdom in 1976. Pearman lives and works in London. After obtaining a Master of Arts at the RCA in 2002 he was chosen to exhibit in the prestigious New Contemporaries 2002 at the Barbican, London. In 2003, Pearman had is first solo show ‘Social Studies' in London at Catto Contemporary. Pearman is featured in many collections across Europe and America. Pearman is a visiting tutor to colleges across the United Kingdom.

Akiko Takizawa – Akiko Takizawa was born in 1971 in Fukuoka, Japan. She graduated from the RCA in 2006, and was featured as one of the Bloomberg New Contemporaries for 2006.

Katsu Yuasa – Katsu Yuasa makes large, intricate prints using the traditional Japanese method of woodcutting. Images are selected from photographs of urban life, edited and changed to monochrome before cutting the wood board by hand. Katsu Yuasa is currently based in London, and graduated from the RCA in 2004. His works have appeared in a variety of galleries around the UK, as well as Tokyo and New York, and he was awarded the prestigious Rijksakademie Residency in Amsterdam.
