Just a quick reminder to anime fans in the UK and Ireland anime film The Colors Within will be released on Friday 31st January 2025. So visit visit ColorsWithin.co.uk to find a screening near you.

The movie is directed by Naoko Yamada who is best known for titles including A Silent Voice, she also directed K-On! and Liz and the Bluebird. We'd say the Colors Within is closer to K-On! and Liz and the Bluebird, it's great movie and all very wholesome, it's worth catching on the big screen while you can!

London, UK, 15 January 2025 - Tickets are now on sale for the must-see anime event that's bringing colour to the New Year! The highly anticipated latest film from visionary director Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice), The Colors Within is "funny, joyful and brimming with confidence" according to IndieWire, and is releasing wide exclusively in cinemas across the United Kingdom and Ireland from 31st January 2025. Tickets for both English-language and Japanese (with subtitles) showings are on sale now at ColorsWithin.co.uk.

Combining catchy songs, beautiful pastel colours, and a heartwarming story for the whole family, The Colors Within is about Totsuko, a gentle young woman with a form of synaesthesia that allows her to see the "colours" of people. When she is drawn to the colour of Kimi, a former honour student who suddenly drops out of their Catholic school, the two find themselves forming a band with Rui, a boy who hides his passion for music from his family. As the three grow closer together through their music, will they start to learn who they really are - what their real "colour" is?

Critics have been singing the praises of The Colors Within following a festival tour that includes Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival, and being awarded the Golden Goblet Award for Best Animation Film at the 2024 Shanghai International Film Festival. Hailed as "the must-see anime film of the year" by Discussing Film, "The Colors Within is nothing short of a masterpiece" in the words of The People's Movies, with Robbie Collin of The Telegraph observing that "this wonderfully dreamy, pastel-toned animation has a quietly galvanising power".

The film's director, Naoko Yamada, is one of the most celebrated creatives working in anime today. Recognised for her ability to create emotionally genuine characters, and a directorial eye that blends the sensibilities of animation and live-action cinema, Yamada previously directed the award-winning A Silent Voice, widely regarded as one of the best anime films of recent times. Her other popular works include the character drama Liz and the Bluebird, the beloved television series K-On!, and the historical fantasy series The Heike Story.

Synopsis:

Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the 'colours' of others. Colours of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a colour she treasures as her favourite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful colour of all. Although she doesn't play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practise at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true 'colours'?
