The good folks from Manga Entertainment UK have sent us details about the up coming DVD release of Soul Eater. Part one contains the first 13 episodes of the series. It's due out on Monday 28th June 2010.

Based on the manga written and illustrated by Atsushi Okubo (B. Ichi) and directed by Takuya Igarashi (Fullmetal Alchemist; Sailor Moon; Ouran High School Host Club; Transformers The Movie), the horror-action-comedy anime series Soul Eater comes to DVD in June 2010 dripping with the kind of Gothic coolness that will delight fans of Tim Burton and Roman Dirge (Lenore, The Cute Little Dead Girl; Invader ZIM), as well as appealing to traditional anime fans who love the likes of ‘Full Metal Alchemist' and ‘Naruto'.

The two-disc Soul Eater Part One brings together the first 13 episodes of the 51 episode series that Anime News Network has described as having "a delicious sharp edge on it that slices in and hooks deep from the start."

Feisty teenager Maka is a Weapon Meister and Soul is her human weapon. As students at the Grim Reaper's Death Weapon Meister Academy, their study habits couldn't be more different. But in battle against the supernatural forces of evil, they're a lethal team. That's when Soul transforms - literally - into a razor-sharp scythe, and every defeated wicked soul he sucks down makes him more deadly. Their goal is to destroy and collect the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, enabling Soul to become a Death Scythe capable of being used by an actual Shinigami. Their fellow students, who all have the same goal, include Black Star and his female partner Tsubaki, and Death the Kid, the son of the academy's headmaster Lord Death, whose weapon partners are sisters Liz and Patty. Also taking part in the soul collecting shenanigans, much to the dismay of the students, is Blair, a magical cat who is able to take on the form of the hottest young witch in town.

A super-cool, boisterous and action-packed series full of irreverent gallows humour, Soul Eater is one of the most visually and thematically appealing animes to come along in quite some time.

Soul Eater Part One (cert. 15) will be released on DVD (£24.99) by Manga Entertainment on 28th June 2010. Special Features include: English 5.1 Surround and Japanese Stereo (with English subtitles) audio options; Episode 7 audio commentary; Soul Eater Late Show (13 episodes); textless opening song – "Resonance"; textless closing song – "I Wanna Be".
