Japan Underground to Organise Free Asian Cinema All-Dayer

London based fans of Japanese cinema will want to keep Saturday 3rd September 2011 free for the Free Asian Cinema All-Dayer at Bloomsbury Lanes, Bedford Way, Tavistock Square, WC1H 9EU. It's organised by the good folks behind Japan Underground to raise awareness and support for the independent Asian film companies that lost their stock when the Sony DADC centre was burnt down in the England riots on 8 August.

Third Window Films and Terracotta Distribution are confirmed for the screenings.

Japan Underground have also sent us details about Unshin a Japanese pop/rock band based in the UK who'll launch their debut album at Japan Underground. This is event is scheduled to run 7pm-3am Bloomsbury Lanes, Bedford Way, Tavistock Square, WC1H 9EU after the Free Asian Cinema screenings.

A day of free Asian film screenings is scheduled to hit the Bloomsbury Lanes in Tavistock Square on Saturday 3 September. Eccentric tales of punk music saving the world (Fish Story), as well as China's first sex shop comedy (Red Light Revolution) are amongst the films scheduled, with more to be announced shortly.

The event is being organised by Japan Underground, a club night and promoter of Asian entertainment, to raise awareness and support for the independent Asian film companies that lost their stock when the Sony DADC centre was burnt down in the England riots on 8 August.

Confirmed to be showing films at the event are Third Window Films, who recently released the critically acclaimed Japanese thriller Confessions on DVD and currently have the award winning drama Villain in cinemas, and Terracotta Distribution, the company behind London's Terracotta Film Festival and films as diverse as Big Tits Zombie 3D and "Film of the Year" (Sight & Sound) Breathless.

"Business is tough enough in the current climate, it would be an utter shame if the Sony DADC incident resulted in these independent companies ceasing to trade. They have so many fantastic and quirky titles that appeal to all kinds of film fans. I hope this free event will encourage those that would not usually try Asian cinema to give it a go, as well as allowing existing fans to show their support to the companies behind the films," says Japan Underground's director Tom Smith.

UK Based Japanese Pop Unit to Launch Debut Album at Japan Underground

UNSHIN, a Japanese pop/rock band based in the UK, will launch their debut album at Japan Underground on Saturday 3 September. The event, held at the Bloomsbury Lanes in London's Tavistock Square, has already announced that it will host free Asian cinema screenings during the day in aid of the independent film companies affected by the Sony DADC warehouse, and now promises a night full of Japanese themed fun, fashion and music.

Combining contemporary pop/rock grooves with the soothing sounds of Japan's national instrument, the koto, UNSHIN's debut album ‘Waltz For Broken Dolls' has already been hailed as "amazing" by Japanese music specialists JaME and "top notch" from Music Maker Magazine. The conceptual album tells the story of a young girl's struggle against the pressures of Japanese society to abandon her own path and conform.

The uniting of UNSHIN and Japan Underground also sees two charity forces come together; vocalist Megumi Miyoshi, originally from the tsunami stricken city of Sendai, released charity single ‘Pray for Japan' earlier this year to offer support to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami, while Japan Underground has so far raised more than one million yen (over £8k) for charities helping to rebuild schools and medical centres in Japan.

Additional to the album launch and live performance from UNSHIN, Japan Underground will also feature music DJed all night from Japan's rock, indie, electronic and quirky pop scenes, as well as Japanese covers of classic western songs. Gaming club night Nintendisco will also be joining the party, and will be hosting competitive retro gaming tournaments, while prizes will be on offer for those with the best costume and most impressive implementation of Japanese inspired fashion.
