Those nice people at ADV Films have just sent us the details of a new title they've acquired - Samurai Gun, it looks like a interesting mix of Samurai and firearms. It doesn't seem to be for the faint hearted, since their marketing it as "Rurouni Kenshin With A Better Body Count", well Kenshin, was never keen on killing in his later years, since he did use a reverse blade sword after vowing never to kill again, but I digress, it looks like an interesting title and perhaps on to consider. The Otaku News Crew were cracking up at the last line on the trailer.Joe
The gentle softly spoken people over at ADV Films have sent us the details of their latest DVD release - Elfen Lied, a violent, gruesome anime, with a surprisingly cute main cast. Appropriately they're marketing it as "an orgy of violence wrapped in pink satin". This anime won't be to everyone's taste, and is sure to be used as ammunition for those complaining that anime is all violent. Combined with Gantz, it seems that ADV has recently had a more darker streak than usual.Joe

The people over at ADV Films US have sent us the details for a release due out on January 25th, Princess Tutu: Märchen, it's directed by Junichi Sato (Sailor Moon, Kaleido Star) and Shougo Kawamoto (You're Under Arrest! Season 2). ADV seem to be targeting the same fans who enjoy Sailor Moon and Kaleido Star with this title. So if you like your anime cute and cuddly this seems to be one for you.Joe
ADV Films have sent us details about their new US DVD release, the dark and cutting edge Gantz. ADV pride themselves on showing the uncut version of the show, not seen on Japanese television. If you're used to cute anime, this may not be the best title for you, if you like something at the more violent end of the spectrum, then go for Gantz! However readers should not confuse Gantz with a mindless violence anime show (*cough* we'll mention no names here), it actually tackles some issues in a thought provoking manner, the two main characters are actually killed in the first episode (and that's not a spoiler either). Gantz also has a very strong helping of fan service!
The Gantz Volume 1 DVD only has two episodes on it (we believe to licensing difficulties), however the price has been lowered to reflect that.

Featuring character designs by Rumiko Takahashi (responsible for the hugely popular Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha) so it looks like one of her own productions. Viz have just announced the launch of Shonen Jump Advanced, it's not a game for the GameBoy Advanced, but infact a new range that "will that will present the latest cutting-edge manga stories offering titles with progressive storylines and characters to older teens and young adults". At first glance this sounds a bit like Pulp - Viz's manga anthology taglined as "Manga for Grownups" which stopped in August 2002, or perhaps Pulp Junior since it's aimed at a slightly younger audience. However like the Shonen Jump manga line these titles will be sold individually, and should not be confused with the Shonen Jump Magazine.
So keep your eyes peeled in April 2005 when title like Hunter X Hunter, I's and Eyeshield 21 start hitting the shelves.
ADV US have just sent us details of their January 4th line up, just as 2005 starts they'll be releasing three titles:
- DNAngel, Volume 2
- Dragon Knight: Wheel of Time
- Aura Battler Dunbine, Volume 11
The Otaku News Crew have just received a newsletter from Anime Network the cable and satellite channel that broadcasts nothing but anime (yay).
They've issued a "call to arms for all Anime Fans" with the headline:
"Anime Fans of America: YOUR TIME IS NOW!"
The newsletter states that Anime Network's continued operation and expansion is in jeopardy and to help improve things the channel wants anime fans to either fax or e-mail the cable companies' decision makers directly via www.theanimenetwork.com. The Anime Network also advise you to get everyone you know to do the same. You can even phone Comcast directly on (215) 665-1700 and say that you'll switch for Anime Network.
The Otaku News crew are uncertain how necessary this is, if it's a marketing ploy from the very clever folks at Anime Network, or if they are indeed in trouble and need fan support.

They've got Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum:04, Robotech Remastered: New Generation Collection 2, Volume 7 (which is the final volume of this series), Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 Volume 2 under their Essential Anime Collection range and Volume 8 of Wedding Peach.
The Otaku News Crew recommend Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 Volume 2 since it has 9 episodes of the shown on for $19.98, even if Sylvia looks amazingly like Ifurita from EL Hazard! Failing that, you can never really go wrong with some Evangelion.
The good people over at ADV US have just sent us the release details for December 14. They've got quite a few titles coming out that week with:
- Get Backers Volume 3
- Mezzo Volume 2
- The third and final volume of New Fist of the North Star
- Saint Seiya Volume 9
- Sister Princess Volume 2
Get Backers is probably the most popular title out of this bunch of releases. Although it does depend on what your tastes are with anime others might enjoy Fist of the North Star more.
We've just heard from Go Fish Pictures that Ghost In the Shell 2: Innocence has grossed an estimated $1,011,000 USD to date. According to Go Fish, this makes it the top grossing anime movie ever on a limited release with less than 100 screens, and the number 7 anime film in history.
